Active bankcards in Armenia grew in number by 31.1% over year
ArmInfo. In Jan 2013 Armenian banks issued a total of 25929 cards within the ArCa national processing, which is by 17.5% more than in Jan 2012. As of 1 Feb 2013, there were a total of 1024.6 thsd active cards in Armenia against 781.5 thsd in the same period of 2012 (31.1% y-o-y growth).
Armenian Card told ArmInfo that in Jan 2013 the banks issued 11331 MasterCards (50.8% y-o-y growth), 7479 ArCa local cards (19.1% y-o-y decline) and 7119 Visa cards (34% y-o-y growth).
The source says that in Jan 2013 operations were carried out with 681.4 thsd cards or 67% of the total number of active cards (27.3% y-o-y growth), particularly, with 348.8 thsd ArCa cards, 175 thsd Visa cards and 157.7 thsd MasterCards.
As of 1 Feb 2013, there were 6090 POS-terminals within Armenian Card system (27.5% y-o-y growth) and 966 ATMs (14.3% y-o-y growth). All the ATMs accept ArCa local cards, while 883 of the ATMs also accept Visa cards and 877 ATMs - MasterCards.
