Armenian Finance Minister: Demand for actuarial services will grow as soon as Armenia launches compulsory health insurance and defined contribution pension system
ArmInfo. The demand for actuarial services will grow with every passing year as soon as Armenia launches compulsory health insurance and the defined contribution pension system, Acting Finance Minister of Armenia Vache Gabrielyan said at the 3rd CIS Congress of Actuaries on May 6.
He said that the growth in the demand for actuarial services is currently observed not only in the sphere of insurance, but also in the healthcare sphere. "This lets us hope that due to the introduction of compulsory health insurance, the demand for actuarial services will grow even faster", stressed the acting minister. An important role will also belong to the switch to the defined contribution pension system in 2014, he said.
Gabrielyan added the actuarial field in Armenia has considerably activated over the past few years, especially due to the introduction of the motor third party liability insurance. At the same time, a chair of actuarial mathematics has opened at the Yerevan State University.
President of the Association of Actuaries of Armenia Astghik Ananyan said that the CIS countries have similar problems in this field. "Our association is relatively new and needs expertise," Ananyan said.
She suggested creating an association of CIS actuaries.
The first Armenian actuaries of an international level were certified in 2010 after completing a training course organized by AED/USAID and the Central Bank of Armenia.
