In May 2015 versus April 2015, the food prices in Armenia (including alcohol and tobacco) dropped by 1.1% (or by 1.2%, alcohol and tobacco exclusive).
The National Statistical Service of Armenia has told ArmInfo that the deflation in May was mostly due to the 8.6-1.2% reduction in prices of vegetables, potatoes, granulated sugar, eggs and dairy products.
In particular, vegetables dropped in price by 10% as compared to April 2015 and by 8.6% as compared to May 2014.
Egg prices grew by 0.9% versus May 2014 and dropped by 4.9% versus April 2015.
Granulated sugar fell in price by 2.2% versus April 2015 and by 2.7% versus May 2014.
Dairy products rose in price by 5.9% versus May 2014 and fell by 1.2% versus April 2015.
Meat products dropped in price by 0.7% versus April 2015 and rose by 5.4% versus May 2014.
Fish products fell in price by 11.1% versus May 2014 and by 0.4% versus April 2014. Animal fat and vegetable oil dropped in price by 0.5% versus May 2014 and by 0.3% as compared to April 2015.
Fruit grew in price by 3.9% in May 2015 (24.2% year-over-year growth).
Confectionary rose in price by 18.6% and by 0.9% in May alone. Soft drinks grew in price by 0.1% in May 2015, cereal products - by 0.2%, alcohol and cigarettes - by 0.3%. The prices of coffee, tea and cocoa
underwent no changes in May 2015.
To note, in May 2015 the consumer market of Armenia saw 0.5% deflation (5.1% inflation versus May 2014), and 1.4% inflation in Jan-May 2015 (5% inflation versus Jan-May 2014).
