ArmInfo. Armenian banks should work at the security of remote services, Armenian IT expert and active blogger Samvel Martirosyan said during a panel discussion among the banks (HSBC Bank Armenia and Ameriabank), telecommunication companies (Beeline and Ucom), providers and IT experts on October 30. The organizer of the panel discussion was Ameriabank.
"The on-line services of some Armenian banks have serious flaws and can become an easy target for hackers," he said. The expert thinks that the Armenian banks' software maintaining the on-line banking
services is vulnerable. "The market is small and it is of little interest to the hackers, but the market is dynamically developing and it will shortly become very attractive for internet fraudsters," the expert said, recalling the recent cases of phishing.
"In addition, the services are too complicated for ordinary users. The impression is that the web interface has been developed for accountants. I used to work as an accountant, but the terminology is
complicated even for me," said Martirosyan.
He thinks such flaws demonstrate that the banks do not properly ensure the security of their own remote services and there are things they have to improve.
On the whole, the factors hindering the spread of remote banking services in Armenia are the lack of public confidence and the low public awareness, along with the low household incomes.
