ArmInfo. Armenia's stock market increased capitalization, amid crisis in 2015. Simultaneously, the transactions fell dramatically nearly on all trading venues. Speaking at the event presenting the stock market's results for 2015, on February 12, Director of NASDAQ OMX Armenia Konstantin Saroyan said the capitalization of the market increased 42% to 103.8 bln drams (versus 73 bln drams in 2014 and 61.7bln drams in 2013).
"The capitalization was increased overwhelmingly due to active transactions with shares. However, there was still certain a year-on-year decrease both in the volume and the number of transactions," Sarosyan said thanking the partners that managed to make transactions despite crisis. He said in 2015, 140 transactions for 4.3bln drams were effected at NASDAQ OMX Armenia versus 213 transactions for 28.8 bln drams in 2014.
Along with this, the market of corporate bonds experiences certain decline: 226 transactions for 453.5 bln drams in 2015 versus 343 transactions for 1.1bln drams in 2014. "The dynamics shows that transactions with corporate bonds have intensified certainly, with the peak being in 2014. We anticipated more in 2016," Saroyan said urging banks to be more active on the market of corporate bonds. The market of government bonds suffered a year-on-year decline too: 325 transactions for 12.1bln drams in 2015 versus 924 transactions for 33.5 bln drams in 2014.
The head of the Armenian stock market informed those present at the event that the trading of credit resources was stopped, and it is necessary to develop a new not less efficient instrument instead. Nevertheless, in 2015, 1,571 transactions with credit resources for 841 mln drams were registered versus 3,582 transactions for 6.5 bln drams in 2014.
Foreign exchange operations in 2015 numbered 2,036 for $313 mln (149 bln drams) versus 4,696 transactions for $744 mln (307.9 bln).
At the same time, Konstantin Saroyan said there was an achievement in 2015 too: in December SWAP- transactions intensified after a yearlong passivity amounting to 5.4 blndrams - a significant growth comparing to the previous years.
