Armenian parliament adopted amendments to law "On the Regulatory Body for Public Services"

ArmInfo. The Armenian parliament  at the extraordinary meeting on June 9 in the second and final  reading began to discuss amendments to the law on the public services  regulation body.

As the First Deputy Minister of Justice Artur Hovhannisyan noted in  his speech, the need for amendments is conditioned by the  requirements of the new constitution of the country adopted in 2015.  First of all, we are talking about streamlining the activities of the  Public Services Regulatory Commission (PSRC). It is envisaged that  the members of the Commission will appoint the RA National Assembly  from April 2018 by a majority vote. In this connection, it is planned  to apply transitional provisions, according to which it is envisaged  to set a period of 1 year for the appointment of the chairman and  four members of the Commission. For the members of the Commission,  various terms for the performance of their duties have been  established. So, for the chairman a term of 5 years is defined, for  four members of the PSRC - from four to 1 year. This is done to  ensure rotation of the members. At the same time, members of the  Commission cannot be appointed for two consecutive terms. PSRC,  according to the bill, becomes a subject, which is not present in the  current law. Members of the Commission must have worked for at least  10 years. They should be citizens of Armenia, having perfect command  of their native language. At the same time, a commission member can  be appointed chairman of the commission. It is also planned to  eliminate the post of deputy chairman of the commission.
