ACCESS Energy company implements works on learning potential of wind energy of Armenia

ArmInfo. ACCESS Energy company  works on learning the potential of wind energy of Armenia, Hayk  Badalyan, Armenian Head of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure  and Natural Resources Department stated during his interview to  ArmInfo.

According to him, the researches, which will last three years, will  be held in Gegharkunik district of the republic, where wind energy  plant is scheduled to be built with power of 200MW. According to the  results of the researches, during which potential of the wind is  learned, a decision will be taken on final power of the plant and  extents of the investments. Investment program will be presented,  which will be adopted by the Government after discussion.

To note, in 2003, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) of  the United States compiled a map of wind-Energy potential of Armenia,  according to which the economically sound wind potential is estimated  at 450 MW of total installed capacity with the generation of  electricity of 1.26 billion kWh / year.

The main prospective  areas are: the Zod River Pass, the Bazum  Mountains: Pushkinsky and Karakhachsky passes, the Djajur Pass, the  Geghama Mountain Massif, the Sevan Pass, the Aparan District, the  High Mountain Massif between the Sisian and Goris Districts, and the  Meghri District. Sanders and Partners, with the support of the German  bank KfW, in 2012, a computer model program for estimating wind  potential in the territory of Armenia  was prepared and submitted to  the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of Armenia. The program  is a database evaluating the wind potential covering the territory of  Armenia from 1981 to 2011.
