State Water Committee: Construction of the Vedi reservoir in Armenia will last four years

ArmInfo. The construction of the Vedi  water reservoir in Armenia will last four years. This was stated by the chairman of the state water management committee Arsen Harutyunyan on July 4 in the Armenian parliament.

According to him, the construction of the reservoir has already begun, and judging by the pace of work, it can be assumed that the project will be implemented ahead of schedule. As a result, Harutyunyan continued, the republic will receive a reservoir with a water volume of 29 million cubic meters, which will make it possible to reduce water releases from Lake Sevan to 15 million cubic meters. In addition, the process continues to develop projects for the construction of three more reservoirs, as well as a new program for the construction of small reservoirs with a displacement of 1-3 million cubic meters, which will be designed to solve local problems.

The construction of the remaining reservoirs is in the design stage. A new program has been developed for the construction of small reservoirs in volumes of 1-3 million cubic meters, which will be designed to solve local problems.

Recall that since January 23, the construction of a reservoir in Vedi started. The total capacity of the reservoir is 29 million cubic meters. Meters, the area of irrigated lands will be 3200 hectares. As a result of the construction of the Vedi reservoir, the mechanical irrigation of 2,900 hectares of land irrigated by water companies Vedi and Ararat will be replaced by a gravity system, which will save about 19 million kW / h of electricity, and the area of irrigated land will increase by 300 hectares . As a result of reconstruction of the irrigation network and modernization of the system, water losses, as well as operating and protection costs, will be reduced. At present, system losses are estimated at 40-50%. As a result of the program, these losses will be reduced to 15-20%. As a result, the water intake from Lake Sevan for irrigation will drop to 18 million cubic meters. M, and the fence of the water channel Artashat - on more than 11 million cubic meters. M. It should be noted that the program for the construction of the Vedi reservoir and irrigation system is financed by the loans of the French Development Agency.
