ArmInfo. During the recent discussions on the implementation of the agricultural insurance system in Armenia, it was decided to start the pilot program in only one area, focusing on several types of crops and risks. This was stated by Deputy Minister of Agriculture Armen Harutyunyan.
The deputy minister explained this decision with the intention at the first stage of implementation to identify problems that the program may face during the expansion.
In particular, he noted that at the moment, data are being collected for the purpose of identifying crops and the area in which the pilot program will start. In cooperation with the Central Bank, according to the deputy minister, an institution for harm assessment will be established and established by the Narma Bureau, which activities will be aimed at systematizing the work of the institute and insurance products.
I believe that by the end of the year we will launch a pilot preliminary program, "A. Harutyunyan stressed. He added that in the first quarter of 2019 the insurance poles will already be ready, with the aim of which specialists from the German Development Bank (KfW) have already been selected, who together with the hydrometeorological service of the Ministry of Emergency Measures and the National Statistical Service are collecting data.
Deputy Agriculture Minister Armen Harutyunyan is convinced that the insurance system will serve as an incentive for increasing investments by small and medium-sized farmers who, with the launch of the system, will feel themselves more protected.
