ArmInfo. The poverty level in Armenia decreased in 2017 from 29.4% to 25.7%. This is noted in the report of the Statistical Committee of the Republic of Armenia "Social Trend and Poverty in Armenia", published on November 30, 2018, based on the results of research on the level of household welfare.
The report indicates that according to the results of the reporting year, there were 766 thousand poor citizens in Armenia, of whom 316 thousand are moderately poor, including 42 thousand extremely poor. In y-o-y terms, the total number of poor and extremely poor people has decreased, while the moderately poor have increased.
Considering towns and villages in Armenia, the poverty level was 25% and 26.8%, respectively, and in Yerevan alone it was 22.4%. Most of the poor - 59.7% are urban residents.
The objective assessment of the poverty level according to the results of research differs from the subjective assessment according to the results of a survey of 7776 households. Namely, subjective assessments turned out to be lower than objective ones. Thus, of the respondents surveyed, 13.1% considered themselves to be poor, while, by objective assessment, this category was 25.7%. 1.1% of respondents considered themselves extremely poor, which slightly differs from the objective assessment of 1.4%. The World Bank provided technical and consulting assistance in the preparation of this report, the UN provided methodological support, and the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, the Ministry of Education and Science, and the Ministry of Healthcare provided cooperation. Thanks to the assistance of the World Bank, it was possible to significantly increase the number of households covered by the survey. In parallel with the study, a survey was conducted among households, namely, persons aged 16 years and older.
According to the World Bank's forecast updated in Octover in Armenia the poverty level (at purchasing power parity - PPP of $ 5.5) will make 38% in 2018, and per $ 3.2 of PPP will make 9.8%, with a decrease in 2019 to 35.9% and 8 , 6% respectively. In 2020, according to the forecast of the World Bank, the poverty level in Armenia will be even lower: 34.9% (based on PPP at $ 5.5) or 7.6% (based on .PPS at $ 3.2).
