ArmInfo. Armenian metallurgical industry is increasing production volumes. According to the data of the Statistical Committee of the Republic of Armenia, in January-May 2020 the sector ensured growth of volumes by 24.4%, against the 7.4% decline a year earlier for the same period. In particular, the production of copper concentrate increased by 24.1% to 156.8 thousand tons, against a decline of 9.2% a year earlier. In monthly terms, copper concentrate production increased by 10.1% to 35.1 thousand tons.
The production of zinc concentrate increased during the reporting period by 30.9% per annum - up to 4,531 tons, against a 5.8% decline a year earlier. However, in May, zinc concentrate production decreased by 7.7% to 1,276 tons.
During the reporting period, the production of molybdenum concentrate for the year increased by 70.5% to 9,463 tons, against an increase of 21.4% a year earlier. In May alone, the production of molybdenum concentrate increased by 14.7% to 2,500 tons.
In the reporting period, ferromolybdenum production in Armenia increased by 12.3% per annum to 3 422.5 tons, against growth by 4% a year earlier. In May alone, 667.9 tons of ferromolybdenum were produced, which is 4% more than in April.
The production of aluminum foil during the reporting period increased by 10.9% per annum - up to 14 518 tons, against the 3.6% decline a year earlier. At the same time, in May, the volume of aluminum foil production increased by 1.1% to 2,832 tons. Steel pipe production in the reporting period 2020 increased by 26.1% per annum - up to 4,846 tons (against an increase of 0.2% a year earlier). Moreover, in May alone, an increase of 61.7% was recorded - up to 1,423 tons.
Alloy (carbon) steel castings were produced during the reporting period in the amount of 6,999.8 tons, with y-o-y growth of 17.8%, against a decline of 9.6% a year earlier. In May, production volumes decreased by 64.5% to 904.3 tons. All metals produced in Armenia are exported, mainly to Europe and the USA. To recall, the metallurgical industry of Armenia in 2019 slowed down the decline in production volumes to 4.7% from 7.2% in 2018 (against an increase of 11.3% in 2017). In particular, ferromolybdenum production increased by 5.5%, molybdenum concentrate - by 28.9%, copper concentrate - by 26%, aluminum foil - by 7.7%, steel pipes - by 7.6%. Zinc concentrate production increased by 3.8%. At the same time, the production of castings from alloyed (carbon) steel decreased in 2019 by 15.2%.
