ArmInfo. Armenia is planning to liberalize its electric energy market from next February, Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures Gnel Sanosyan stated as he summed up his 100-day activities.
"This is news for our country and we are now making preparations. We have held a number of discussions with out partners from the government and private sector. We are holding weekly meetings to properly prepare for the process," he said.
Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures Hakob Vardanyan stated earlier that the U.S. Development Agency issued an $8.5mln grant for the electric energy market liberalization program in Armenia.
Market liberalization will enable energy producers to sell their energy at prices formed on the basis of the market demand and supply rather than at the rate set by the Public Services Regulatory Commission (PSRC). "The program will enable energy producers to practice 10% free sale of electric energy," the official said.
Stage-by-stage energy market liberalization will ensure equal competition, stabilize the price rates and raise the level of regional cooperation.
