ArmInfo. In 2021, Armenia's industry was able to grow by 2.385 trillion drams ($ 4.7 billion), which is 3.3% higher than the indicator of a year ago (instead of a decline of 0.9% a year earlier).
According to official statistics, the reversal of the downward trend in 2020 with growth in 2021 is mainly due to the positive change in the negative indicators of the manufacturing industry, against the background of a slight decrease in the volume of the mining sector. In December 2021 alone, industrial production increased by 6.8% with a volume of 280.8 billion drams ($578.8 million).
In the mining industry and open pit development in 2021, compared to 2020 a decline of 0.8% was recorded, against an increase of 11.6% a year earlier, with a volume of 587.9 billion drams. In December alone, the mining sector provided a production volume of 49.6 billion drams with a monthly decline of 1.8%.
For the whole year, the volume of the manufacturing industry grew by 3.4% (against a decline of 3.9% a year earlier) - exceeding 1.4 trillion drams, of which 197.9 billion drams fell in December, having increased by 6.9% over the month. Moreover, in the manufacturing industry in textile production in 2021, a 2.1-fold increase in volumes was recorded (against a decline of 31.6% a year earlier), machinery and equipment - by 89% (instead of an increase of 2.8% a year earlier), clothing by 25% (instead of an increase of 4.3% a year earlier), other non-metallic mineral products - by 24% (instead of an increase of 9.3% a year earlier), beverages - by 21.5% (against a decline of 12.9% a year earlier), rubber products - by 21.5 % (against a decline of 7.2% a year earlier), furniture - by 20.8% (against a decline of 13.7%), electrical equipment - by 6.8% (instead of an increase of 22.2% a year earlier), printing activities - by 4.8% (instead of a decline of 23.7% a year earlier), food products - by 3.8% (instead of a decline of 0.4% a year earlier), pharmaceuticals - by 2.3% (against growth by 23.6% a year earlier). At the same time, a decrease in volumes was registered in the following sectors: in the production of finished metal products - by 38.6% (against an increase of 20.6% a year earlier), jewelry - by 32.7% (instead of a decline of 13.3% a year earlier), chemical production - by 24.7% (instead of growth by 14.5% a year earlier), cigarettes - by 13.1% (against a decline of 19.7% a year earlier), computers, optical and electrical equipment - by 4.1% (instead of decline by 9.2%) and base metals - by 10.5% (instead of growth by 9.4%).
Food products (582.2 billion drams), drinks (201.9 billion drams), basic metals (182.4 billion), cigarettes (139 billion) are leading in the manufacturing sector in terms of production.
According to statistical data, the dynamics of the supply of electricity, gas, steam and conditioned air accelerated growth from 0.1% in 2020 to 9.3% in 2021, amounting to 279.2 billion drams. In December alone, an increase of 23% was recorded - up to 31.3 billion drams.
Moreover, the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity increased by 8.3% over the year (instead of a decline of 0.4% in 2020), while gas production, distribution of gaseous fuel through gas supply systems increased by 14% over the year (with 2.8% growth in 2020).
Revenues from water supply, waste treatment and processing, and the receipt of secondary raw materials increased by 7.1% in 2021 (against a 13.9% decline a year earlier) - up to 22.9 billion drams, with a decline of 0.6% in December - up to 1.8 billion drams. Moreover, the improvement in dynamics is largely due to the growth in the segment of collection, processing and disposal of waste by 11.8%.
The volume of industrial production in Armenia in 2020 decreased by 0.9% compared to 2019, amounting to2.070 trillion drams ($4.2 billion), against a 9% growth registered in 2019. The change in upward-downward dynamics is mainly due to the slowdown in the mining sector and the ongoing decline in the manufacturing industry since March 2020.
The average settlement rate of the dram in December 2021 was 485.14 AMD/$1, and in January-December 2020 - 503.77 AMD/$1, against 518.91 AMD/$1 in December 2020 and 489.01 AMD/$1 in January- December 2019
