ArmInfo. The cargo transportation in Armenia registered a serious growth, but, nevertheless, our country still remains problematic in the context of transport communications. Tatul Manaseryan, Doctor of Economics, professor, head of the "Alternative" Research Center, a member of the Eurasian Expert Club stated during a press conference on August 22.
He noted that the only land road (Upper Lars) is over-loaded during the summer season. according to the economist, there are serious traffic jams on this road due to the growth of re-export,."And this, among other things, has caused the recent steps taken by Georgia, which will lead to the restriction of re-export," he said.
According to the RA Statistical Committee, the volume of cargo transportation in Armenia for H1 2023 totaled 8,938.3 thousand tons, with a slowdown in y-o-y growth from 11.2% to 7.3%.
It should be reminded that Rafael Gevorgyan, Deputy Minister of Economy, stated earlier that the re-export from Armenia includes those goods that are allowed to be exported. "Re-export, of course, has a certain impact on export volumes, but this is in no way related to the sanctions environment," he noted. Within the framework of the recent meeting of the Armenian-Polish intergovernmental commission, Armenian Minister of Economy Vahan Kerobyan noted that it is important for the state to protect Armenian companies from the impact of secondary sanctions. In this regard, he said that during the year, in the context of sanctions against Russia and Belarus, only a few Armenian companies were included in the sanctions list. < In May, when our American and European partners provided us with a list of goods of critical importance, within a few days we established enhanced controls to limit the export of these goods. Of course, this created difficulties for manufacturers, but it is important for us to be transparent and understandable for our European and American partners>, he stressed.
