ArmInfo. Despite the shelling by the Azerbaijani armed forces in direction of the Armenian-American metallurgical plant under construction in Yeraskh (Ararat region), the project continues to be implemented. Armenian Minister of Economy Vahan Kerobyan announced to journalists on October 31 during a briefing.
At the same time, he noted that the plant would be relocated. The new location, according to the minister, is far from the originally chosen one. "We are dealing with private investments. Therefore, investors themselves determine their next steps and actions. Considering the geographical location and regional situation, we are trying to be as useful as possible for them," Kerobyan emphasized. In general, he noted that investments in the metallurgical industry of Armenia have been growing in recent years, citing in this regard the construction of a number of new plants. However, Kerobyan noted that the main condition for long-term investment programs is still long-term peace. "We can change laws, develop programs, attract investments, but peace is the necessary condition that can ensure large investment programs," he said.
In the summer of this year, Minister of Economy Vahan Kerobyan announced the construction of a metallurgical plant in Yeraskh for the processing and production of ferrous metals, angles, and pipes. He noted that the investment amounted to $70 million, and the plant will be built on an area of 16,500 square meters, with y-o-y production volumes amounting to about 180 thousand tons. "200 people are already involved in the construction of the enterprise, and after its launch the number of workers will reach 1000 people," Kerobyan said.
Some time after the announcement of the construction of the Armenian-American metallurgical plant, the Azerbaijani armed forces opened fire in the direction of the construction site. As a result of the shelling, two civilian vehicles and the administrative building of the plant were damaged. In addition, as a result of the shelling of a metallurgical plant on May 14, two Indian citizens were injured.
