ArmInfo. Armenia and Iraq are working on launching direct flights and simplify the visa regime. This was stated by Armenian Minister of Economy Vahan Kerobyan on the sidelines of the conference on Connecting Innovations Armenian-Iraqi Tech Initiative, which took place yesterday in Gyumri.
The conference was attended by Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan and Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid.
At the same time, Kerobyan pointed to the potential for bilateral cooperation in the technology sector. In particular, according to the minister, a number of Armenian companies provide technological services to Iraqi partners. "And today's conference showed that this potential is much higher. Those Armenian technology companies that produce the end product should take a closer look at the Iraqi 43 million market, where there are numerous areas that need technology," Kerobyan said.
During the conference, Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid attached importance to the exchange of experience and the implementation of joint projects in the technological field with Armenia. In the context of creating a favorable environment for establishing business contacts, the head of state pointed out the need for mutual visits at a high level.
"I am proud to be the first Iraqi president to pay an official visit to Armenia. Both my visit and other visits will further strengthen friendly relations between our countries and contribute to close cooperation," he said.
During the event, participants discussed the prospects for combining the innovative potential of Armenia and Iraq, the possibilities of multi-sectoral cooperation, etc.
It is reported that in Gyumri, the President of Iraq visited the TUMO Center for Creative Technologies. According to the data of the RA Statistics Committee, the foreign trade turnover of Armenia and Iraq for 9 months of this year decreased by 18.4%, amounting to $137.7 million. At the same time, export volumes decreased by 18.7% to $137 million, while imports increased 2-fold up to $737.6 thousand.
