ArmInfo. On February 8, at the next meeting, the Government of Armenia made a change to one of its earlier decisions, which will solve the problem of personnel shortage in the Nuclear Safety Regulatory Committee.
In particular, according to the first deputy chairman of the committee Khachatur Khachikyan, it is planned to transfer specialists from the nuclear safety department, the radiation safety department and the technical department of the nuclear safety committee from the civil service to specialists performing civilian work.
"The problem arose because for many years it was impossible to fill vacancies on the committee. In particular, during 2021-2023, we held 55 competitions for the civil service, 21 of which did not take place at all due to the lack of applicants or inadequacy of participants, and 34 competitions involved 21 people, of whom 12 were added to the committee staff as a result of the competition employees, but during this period 9 people also resigned of their own free will, and the committee faces the problem of generational change," explained Khachikyan.
In turn, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan recalled that the RA authorities have set themselves the task of building a new nuclear power plant. "Tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, we will be faced with a situation here: there is money, there is a project, everything is there, but we cannot implement it because we do not have specialists. We are already very late with this, but, as they say, better late than never, and we must make this decision now," he said.
The premier instructed the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports to pay special attention to future nuclear specialists when determining quotas for deferment from military service.
