Armenia is not going to issue foreign exchange bonds
ArmInfo. Armenia is not yet going to issue foreign exchange government bonds to be listed at international stock exchanges, Armenian Finance Minister Vache Gabrielyan said at a press conference on Friday.
According to him, as a rule, foreign investors follow the ratings when a country issues foreign exchange government bonds in foreign markets. For instance, Georgia issued such bonds several years ago and this year. However, Armenia is not going to issue them, as there is no need because Armenia successfully attracts cheaper and long-term preferential loans from international financial institutions. "We have no such a task", he said.
The minister pointed out that the country ratings and Fitch are of great importance to the investors and business climate of the country, but as the country is not involved in international financial markets, the Fitch rating will have no impact on the domestic market of government bonds. "These assessments have no impact on the domestic market, as investors are mostly striving not to take money from small countries, whose currency is inconvertible and there are big currency risks in this regard", the minister said.
