ArmInfo. The deposits in Armenian banks dropped by 0.8% in August 2015 and totaled 1.836 trillion AMD by 1 September 2015. The National Statistics Service of Armenia reports that the deposits grew by 12.6% versus August 2014 and by 4.4% in Jan-Aug 2015.
The decline in August was due to reduction of AMD deposits by 3.5% to 529.6 bln AMD amid 0.4% growth in forex deposits to 1.306 trillion AMD. The share of forex deposits in the total deposits traditionally prevails over the share of AMD deposits - 70.1% and 29.9%, respectively. As compared to August 2014, the AMD deposits rose by 3.1%, in Jan-Aug 2015 - by 6%, while the USD deposits rose by 16.9% and 3.8%, respectively.
The interest rates of AMD deposits made up 12.26% in August 2015 versus 14.44% in July 2015, 10.95% in Jan 2015 and 10.68% versus August 2015. (As of 31 August 2015, the AMD/USD exchange rate was 482.77 AMD/$1).
