A meeting between GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GEH)/Global Nuclear Fuel- Americas (GNFA) and the State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM (Rosatom)/Joint Stock Company TVEL (TVEL) management was held on July 18, 2016 under the TVS-K fuel alliance agreement between GNFA and TVEL, Rosatom reports.
Sergey Kirienko, CEO, Rosatom, Kirill Komarov, First Deputy CEO, Corporate Development and International Business, Rosatom, Yury Olenin, President, TVEL and Jay Wileman, President and CEO, GEH and Amir Vexler, COO, GNFA attended the meeting. The parties discussed the areas of nuclear cooperation development and supplies of Russian-designed TVS-K nuclear fuel for PWR reactors. Among other things they touched upon the perspectives of TVEL-GNFA joint efforts to license TVS-K fuel in the U.S. NRC and get its authorization for supplying TVS-K reload batches for operation in the U.S. PWR reactors. TVEL has signed the first TVS-K LTA contract with one U.S. utility prior to the meeting.
"We believe in this project,' said Sergey Kirienko, CEO, Rosatom. 'We can manufacture the TVS-K fuel, it has been in operation in one of the NPPs in Western Europe. Hence we are entering the U.S. nuclear fuel market not empty-handed. It is very important that in our cooperation with GE-Hitachi we move beyond words to deeds. There has been a contract signed on supply of TVS-K LTAs to be loaded into one of the U.S. PWRs. We place a high value on the founded alliance and are ready to apply all our expertise, knowledge and efforts to successfully license our TVS-K fuel in the U.S. NRC."

On July 19, 2016 the delegation of GEH and GNFA will visit PSJC "MASHINOSTROITELNY ZAVOD" (Elektrostal, a subsidiary of TVEL) to see the production facilities and advanced technology solutions applied for manufacturing of a wide range of nuclear fuel designs.
