ArmInfo. Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan received Chairman of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) Board Tigran Sargsyan on December 16.
The press office of the President reports that the meeting covered the EEU development prospects amid the complicated global economic situation, as well as the influence of Armenia's EEU membership on this structure. "When joining the EEU, we hoped for improvement of the economic condition of the country. Unfortunately, our accession coincided with the global financial crisis, which had a negative effect on our expectations," the President said, expressing confidence that the EEU has done a great job, which will be summed up in 10 days at the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in St. Petersburg.
He especially stressed the importance of adopting a single Customs Code aimed at applying the best customs traditions from international practices in the EEU. He also emphasized the need to establish ties with the third countries, noting that Armenia plays an active role in building contacts between Iran and the Eurasian Economic Union, striving to reach agreement on creation of a free trade zone in the shortest time possible.
