ArmInfo. The Armenian Government seeks to generate cheap electricity and sell it profitably. At the Government's sitting on Jan 12, Armenian Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan assigned the minister of energy infrastructures and natural resources, and the minister of economic development and investments to prepare their proposals together with the Public Services Regulatory Commission and to submit them to the Government within the next 3 months.
The proposals are to cover changes in the power engineering development strategy till 2036, which should be aimed at generating electricity at low prices. In this context, Karapetyan stressed the importance of intensifying the talks with the countries of the region, as well as using the domestic potential in the best possible way in order to expand the regional electric power cooperation.
"Given the economy development trends of Armenia and growth in fuel prices on the global market, construction of new power transmission lines in Iran and Georgia, as well as development of renewable energy in the country and the need to enhance the electric power safety, we should work out a clear program on electricity export," Karapetyan said.
