ArmInfo. The devaluation of the AMD to the USD in January-April 2017 was 0.5%, against the revaluation of 0.3% in the same period in 2016. At the same time, in the consumer market of Armenia in January-April 2017 inflation was 2.4%, against inflation 0.1% in the same period in 2016.
As the Armenian National Statistical Service told ArmInfo, only in April the USD weakened (devaluation) against the USD by 0.1% (against revaluation a year earlier by 1%), with annual devaluation by 0.8% (against devaluation by 1.5% % a year earlier). In April 2017, the average settlement rate was 485.10 AMD/USD1, against 481.27 AMD/USD1 in April 2016.
According to the source, inflation in 1% was fixed in the consumer market in April 2017, with annual inflation of 1.2%, and in January-April 2017 inflation of 2.4% with annual inflation of 0.1%.
According to the National Statistical Service of Armenia, in 2016 the AMD position against the USD did not change against the background of deflation of 1.1%. On an annual basis (January-December 2016 to the same period of 2015), a slight revaluation of the AMD to the USD was accompanied by deflation of 1.4%. Only in December 2016 the devaluated to the USD by 0.9%, with inflation of 1.1%. In 2015, the devaluation of the AMD against the USD by 4.2% was accompanied by a 0.1% deflation, but only in December, the devaluated against the USD by 0.6% with inflation of 1.7%.
To note, AMD depreciated against the USD at the retail currency market of Armenia by April 5, 2017 to 485 AMD/USD1 on average, against 484 AMD/USD1 as of December 31, 2016 and 479 AMD/USD1 as of April 5, 2016.
