The Minister of Agriculture of Armenia, Igantiy Arakelyan, visited the Center for Greenhouse Services of the Center for Agribusiness and Rural Development (CARD) in the Darakert community yesterday. The minister took part in a meeting with representatives of small and medium-sized farms. According to him, the development of greenhouse farms based on the latest technologies will promote the development of the agrarian sector, as well as increase its profitability.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture of Armenia, the meeting highlighted the advantages of greenhouses based on progressive agrotechnologies - with membrane coating, their role in the development of the agrosphere. According to experts, greenhouses of this type can provide high efficiency in the work of small and medium-sized farms. The price of the structures is approximately $ 22 per 1 sq. M, the payback period is 3 years. In these greenhouses, the organization of production is possible both through heating and without it.
The center was founded in 2014 to develop greenhouse farms. For representatives of the sphere, local and foreign specialists conduct seminars and trainings for farmers, and there is also free consulting. The center also serves as a platform for communication of more than 1000 farmers from 22 Armenian communities. According to the director of the department for the development of agriculture and hothouse economy Anna Karapetyan, the activities of the Center are also aimed at acquaintance with new technologies for greenhouse farms, as they cooperate with 13 companies of global importance.
As the data of the National Statistical Service of Armenia show, the gross output of agriculture and fisheries in Armenia in January-August this year amounted to 476.4 billion drams, which is 9.1% less than the same period.
