ArmInfo. In 2017, irrigated areas in Armenia increased by 8930 hectares, amounting to 97470 hectares, which is 9.2% more than in 2016. On January 19, the chairman of the State Water Committee of the Republic of Armenia Arsen Harutyunyan informed RA Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan.
According to him, last year, from the point of view of aridity, was one of the worst in the last century, and in 2016 it was recognized as one of the best. In this context, as Arsen Harutyunyan noted, in 2017, an unsuccessful year compared to 2016 was the growth of water supply by 28% or by 1,130 million cubic meters of water. Irrigated areas of one hectare with 5130 cubic meters are brought to 6001 cubic meters. In 2017, revenues from water supply increased by 1.420 billion drams, and fund collections by 380 million AMD. According to the head of the State Committee, in 2017, the collection of funds for used water amounted to 4, 150 billion drams, which became the highest indicator in the history of the department. Mechanical water production in 2017 also turned out to be arid, as in 2014, 0.11 kWh of electricity was spent for the production of 1 cubic meter of water, which totaled 1.160 billion AMD.
Responsible for the sphere of people noted that in 2018 the task will be to bring the irrigated areas to 110 thousand hectares.
