ArmInfo. As of today, the filling capacity of Armenian reservoirs amounts to 480.5 million cubic meters, which is less by 30 million cubic meters compared to the previous year's tax period, April 12 at a meeting with the acting president. Prime Minister of the Republic of Karen Karapetyan was declared by the Chairman of the State Committee for Water Economy of the Republic of Armenia Arsen Harutyunyan.
According to him, according to the press service of the Armenian government, the level of Lake Sevan was 1900 m 56 cm, which corresponds to the level of 2017. At the meeting, it was noted that from March 22, the process of water releases began on the Arpa-Sevan tunnel. According to Arsen Harutyunyan, the main problem for water supply are the land areas that feed from the Akhuryan reservoir. According to the current situation, there are 336 million cubic meters of water in the reservoir, which is 36 million cubic meters less than a year ago. Nevertheless, in order to resolve the problem, measures are being taken to launch 20 mobile pumping stations. In addition, drilling works are being carried out in various regions of the country.
The chairman of the State Water Management Committee also noted that meetings were held with a number of investors who are interested in building small and medium-sized reservoirs in Armenia. According to Arsen Harutyunyan, the committee discussed with the "Armvodproject" institute projects for the construction of more than 30 small and medium-sized reservoirs, of which 11 reservoirs have been allocated. As of today, the reservoirs were built at the expense of credit resources (Marmarik, Vedi, Kaps, Mastara), but today, based on public-private partnership, there is an opportunity to intensify the process of attracting investments in the construction of small and medium-sized reservoirs. The volume of 11 selected small and medium reservoirs should amount to 43.2 million cubic meters of water, and the volume of investments will amount to 34.2 billion AMD, which will make it possible to provide 17,000 hectares of land with irrigation water.
Karen Karapetyan stressed the importance of implementing the program for the construction of small and medium reservoirs in cooperation with the private sector, instructing the Committee together with the Center for Strategic Initiatives to prepare investment project packages and a feasibility study as soon as possible.
