ArmInfo. The tariff for irrigation water in Armenia causes concern of the new government of the country, Armenia's Minister of Energy Infrastructures and Natural Resources Artur Grigoryan stated in the National Assembly of Armenia today.
According to him, active discussions have been launched on this issue. The Minister stressed that in a few days, all the possible options for resolving the issue of water tariffs will be presented. Grigoryan recalled that the state subsidizes part of consumers' costs, but the problem requires a comprehensive solution.
In turn, MP from the Prosperous Armenia faction Vardevan Grigoryan noted that the current tariff for irrigation water in the country is a heavy burden for farmers. As an example, he brought the fact that allocation of 15 thousand drams is required for irrigation of 1 hectare of land. "This is a very high price, which ultimately affects the cost of the final product," the MP stressed.
To note, the tariff for irrigation water in Armenia is 11 drams per cubic meter. But actually it costs twice as much (on average 22-23 drams in the republic, the difference is paid by the state).
