The share of IT sector in Armenia`s GDP was 4%

ArmInfo. The share of the IT sector in Armenia's GDP was 4%, which is commensurate with the level  of some developed countries. This was stated during the speech at the 7th Russian-Armenian interregional forum, which takes place in the Meridian Exhibition Center, Synopsys Armenia CEO Hovik Musaelyan  stated.

<15 years ago, the Armenian government announced the IT sphere as a  priority for the development of the country's economy and significant  progress was achieved over the years.  The tendencies and needs for  the development of ICT, which are typical for developed cities, are  unequivocally observed in Yerevan, "he stressed. In particular,  according to O. Musaelyan, annually the growth of the sphere is about  25-30%, and on the market there are about 800 IT companies, including  the offices of the leading international organizations in the field  of information technologies.

Many spheres of urban economy of Yerevan, according to the expert,  are digitized and automated.  Moreover, management, control and  safety systems have been introduced.

Musaelyan informed that currently in the development stage there are  programs in the field of management of public transport, water  supply, wastewater treatment, the use of energy-saving heating  systems, and management of domestic garbage.

To note, according to the Ministry of Transport, Communications and  IT of Armenia, in 2017, 15,000 jobs were created in the IT sector,  570 companies were open. In 2018, according to the estimates of the  Ministry, it will be possible to increase the number of jobs by  another 10%, given the expansion of international cooperation,  including the increase in the number of orders, etc. According to the  ministry, Armenia's IT sector increased volumes by 29.6% to 76  billion drams ($ 157.4 million) in 2017.
