General Electric starts work on modernization of Yerevan Thermal  Power Plant amounting 18.8 million EUR

ArmInfo. The launch of the modernization program for the Yerevan Electric Power Station was launched, ArmInfo was told in the Ministry of Energy and Natural  Resources of Armenia. The modernization program will be implemented  within six months, its cost is 18.8 million euros, and the contractor  is the American General Electric.

According to the ministry, the project envisages the reconstruction  of a gas turbine, including an air compressor of the MXL-2 class. As  a result, the plant's capacity will increase by about 7 MW from 220  to 227 MW, the specific fuel consumption will decrease from 258.1  pounds per square inch / kWh to 252.8 pounds per square inch / kWh.  The power supply will be upgraded. The efficiency of the power unit  will increase by 1%, the electricity production will increase to 59.5  million kWh.

After the technical update, the frequency of the overhaul of the unit  will decrease from 4 to 6 years, which will help to increase the  period of continuous operation of the power unit.

Previously, Arkadi Gevorgyan, technical director of Yerevan TPP CJSC,  informed ArmInfo that when operating in the heating system, that is,  when the heat energy consumption starts in Armenia, the efficiency of  the block will be 73%, which is a very high indicator. Gevorgyan  noted that the unit has the possibility of producing heat energy of  580 Gig joules.

The gas turbine power unit with the combined cycle of the Yerevan TPP  was built on a loan provided by the Japanese state bank for  international cooperation (JBIC) and was put into commercial  operation in April 2010. The rated power of the unit is 243 MW, the  thermal power is about 434 GJ / h.

The Yerevan HPP is a customer of Iranian natural gas, which is  supplied to Armenia in exchange for electricity at a rate of 3 kWh  per 1 cubic meter of gas. The last time the block was stopped at the  PWP in June 2014. Then the cost of overhaul amounted to 9.5 billion  drams, 90% of which were used to purchase spare parts for the gas  turbine. PWP is held every 36 thousand hours of work of the station.
