ArmInfo. Starting January 1, 2020, prices for some imported goods will rise in Armenia. On November 13, RA Minister of Finance Atom Janjughazyan said this in the parliament, answering the question of the MP from the Bright Armenia faction Gevorg Gorgisyan that changing customs duties could lead to inflation growth from the planned level of 4% (+ - 1.5 %) up to 8%.
The Minister of Finance did not theoretically rule out this possibility, noting that it is extremely difficult to reach this indicator if one focuses on macroeconomic indicators. The Government of the country, together with the Central Bank, are taking the necessary steps to manage all possible risks, including through export growth and diversification of export potential. However, the minister admitted the possibility of rising prices for some items of goods. "There will be some price hikes, but instead there will be much more tangible benefits than the price hikes of certain types of products," the minister said, urging not to consider the upcoming price increase unilaterally.
To recall, from January 1, 2020, it is planned to increase customs duties for 700-800 items of goods imported into Armenia from third countries and bring them into line with customs duties in force in other EAEU countries.
