ArmInfo. At the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of the Republic of Armenia with the participation of Government structures and mining companies held discussions on the processes of organizing the mining industry, the prospects for the construction of a copper smelter.
The discussions were attended by the Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of the Republic of Armenia Lilia Shushanyan, heads of the Zangezur Copper-Molybdenum Combine, Vallex Group, CJSC Teghut, Akhtalinsky and Agarak Copper- Molybdenum Combine.
"The activities of the mining industry will continue to play an important role in the development of the economy of the republic, affecting the growth of gross domestic product. But there are risks in this matter. In order to build a metallurgical plant, it is necessary to carry out deep and comprehensive research, develop serious technical and economic justifications, and it is very important that all this be done after a competent, preliminary study and receipt of answers to all questions, "said the Deputy Minister, quoted by the press service of the Ministry.
At the meeting, the format of the project and the participation of public and private companies in it were discussed. It was decided that the companies within two weeks will submit to the Ministry a full range of issues and risks that they are considering, as well as their position regarding their willingness to order further studies.
Earlier, ArmInfo reported that Chinese investors showed interest in building a new, modern copper smelter in the Armenian city of Alaverdi.
