ArmInfo. The Armenia-European Union Investment Forum is of great importance in terms of determining its strategic goals. This was announced at the first meeting of the interdepartmental commission on the organization of the forum by Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan.
According to the press service of the Government of Armenia, the meeting of the commission was attended by the head of the Eastern Neighborhood Regional Programs Department at the Directorate General for Neighborhood and Enlargement of the European Commission Vasilis Maragos and the head of the EU delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Andrea Victorin.
The Vice Prime Minister emphasized that one of the main goals of the forum will be to attract foreign investment, establish new business ties, and most importantly, deepen and further strengthen political and economic relations with the European Union. It must comply with the long-term economic priorities of the state. The goal of the forum should be not so much raising investor awareness about Armenia, but rather forming more specific and real business relations and attracting foreign investments to the target areas of development of the Armenian economy. <Armenia already has experience in holding investment conferences. The lessons learned from previous events should be taken into account, avoiding the repetition of past mistakes and drawing on successful examples, "Tigran Avinyan emphasized.
In his opinion, to increase the effectiveness of the forum, it is necessary choose two or three, maximum four target topics in which there is great potential for attracting investment and further development. "Our goal should be to be modern for advanced and promising, modern technologies and the development of human capital. At the same time, we need to focus not on short-term opportunities, but on long-term ones, in particular, on research and development, innovation and a green economy, "said the deputy head of government.
Tigran Avinyan emphasized that a feature of the upcoming event should also be ensuring multilateral cooperation. "The forum should not be seen as a platform for numerous state programs, but as an exceptional opportunity to attract financing in large private sector investment projects in which the state will partner and create a favorable environment for investments and provide guarantees for their protection. In addition, the conference format will allow daily communicate with the private sector, expert groups and development partners, "said the Deputy Prime Minister.
In turn, RA Minister of Economy Tigran Khachatryan stated that the government plans to introduce a new model of holding investment forums - the first in this series is the Armenia-EU conference. He added that the initial proposals of the conference include issues such as infrastructure, green economy, agriculture, high technology and innovation.
During the discussions, it was noted that the Ministry of Economy of the RA will organize the forum. At a meeting of the commission were also discussed approaches and budget for organizing the forum, a schedule of events has been determined.
