ArmInfo.Within the framework of the Tranche-3 program, on the segment of the Talin-Gyumri road of the North-South transport corridor, the Chinese Sinohydro Corporation contractor company carried out work to close up pits on the roads to improve the cross-country ability.
In particular, as stated in the official statement of the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures, the contractor posted warning signs about road irregularities in this area at 18 points, as well as 22 signs for pedestrians. Until the end of the winter season, the contractor intends to conduct intensive maintenance of the road section, in particular, to clear the roads of debris, and in case of rain, snow.
To recall, the government had claims to the quality of the road built by Chinese contractors. As of December 2019, a 31 km section was built and modernized, for which $ 70 million was spent. The remaining amount was allocated for excavation work on the Ashtarak-Talin and Talin-Gyumri sections. Concreting work was also carried out on a road 11 km away.
To recall, the construction of the entire 556-kilometer North-South highway, which stretches from Bavra to Meghri, is estimated at more than $ 2 billion. The construction of the corridor was originally planned to be completed in 2019, but now the deadlines are postponed for another 7-10 years. Under the North-South program, the Armenian government calculated the preliminary savings of $ 2.5 per hour for each passenger and $ 1 per hour per ton of cargo. As the Armenian authorities expect, the program will allow the country to mitigate the consequences of the blockade by Azerbaijan and Turkey in the future, play the role of a transit state in the cargo transportation of the countries of the region, as well as join the Black Sea ring highway.
