Nikol Pashinyan: Direct taxes are more prone to shadow than indirect  taxes

ArmInfo. At the end of 2019, the amount of taxes paid by the 1000 largest taxpayers

Armenia, amounted to 1 trillion 61 billion drams. Compared to 2018,  the growth amounted to 122 billion drams (13%). The Prime Minister of  Armenia Nikol Pashinyan wrote about this on his Facebook page.   According to the Prime Minister, compared with 2017, the amount of  taxes paid increased by approximately $ 254 billion, or 31%.

"Before presenting the following fact, I would like to say that  direct taxes (income tax, income tax) are more prone to shadow than  indirect taxes. This is especially true for larger companies that are  more willing to pay excise tax, VAT, since these taxes will be  refunded from consumers, since these taxes are included in the sale  price. Accordingly, from the point of view of tax administration,  registration of direct taxes requires more effort than indirect  taxes. We will take this into account and see how the share of direct  taxes has changed s paid by the 1,000 largest companies in the past  years ", - he wrote the prime minister.  Accordingly, he continued,  direct taxes paid in 2019 increased by more than 4.4 percentage  points for compared to 2017. In particular, if in 2017, of all taxes  (807 billion) paid by 1000 major companies, the share of direct taxes  was only 252 billion (or about 31.2%), then in 2018 and 2019 the  share of direct taxes amounted to 35.6% (335 billion in 2018, 378  billion in 2019). This indicates a qualitative change in the  structure of taxes.

According to the prime minister, the fact that 81,534 jobs were  created or removed from the shadows is also seen by large taxpayers.  <In particular, if large companies paid 173 billion income tax in  2018 (this tax is deducted from wages), then in 2019 there has been a  progressive increase - 208 billion drams (an increase of 20%). In  January-December 2019, the 10 largest taxpayers paid about 257  billion drams to the state budget, which is about 23 billion drams,  or about 10% more than in the previous year. 191 Armenian companies  paid more than 1 billion drams of taxes in 2019. In 2018, there were  166 such companies, and in 2017 - 141. Similarly, in 2019, 361  companies paid more than 500 million drams in taxes. The number of  such companies over the same period last year amounted to 320, in  2017 - only 285. In 2019, more than 555 companies paid direct taxes  of over 100 million drams, in 2018 there were 497 such companies, in  2017 - 425, "Pashinyan wrote.
