Armenian transport sector at year-end 2019 had a significant decline  in freight traffic and a weak growth in passenger traffic

ArmInfo.The volume of cargo transportation in Armenia in 2019 decreased by 49.6% (against an increase of 3.7% in 2018), amounting to 14 722.2 thousand tons. Of  these, 9 651.6 thousand tons (65.6% of the total) accounted for road  transport, which decreased by 60.6% year on year (against an increase  of 3.5% in 2018). This is evidenced by the data of the Statistical  Committee of RA.

According to statistics, rail freight for the reporting year  increased by 11.5% to 3,212.6 thousand tons (against an increase of  9.1% in 2018). 1,837.3 thousand tons of natural gas was delivered via  the main pipeline, which is 4.1% more than the indicator a year ago  (against a decline of 1.2% in 2018). Air transportation increased by  14.4% (against a decline of 19.2% in 2018) - up to 20.7 thousand  tons. In 2019, freight turnover increased by 8.9% (compared to a  growth of 3.2% in 2018), amounting to 4,774.7 million tons per km.

Passenger traffic for the reporting year increased by 4.4% - up to  194 616.1 thousand people, against a decline of 7% in 2018. In  particular, road transport increased by 3.6% to 164,806.8 thousand  people.  Electric passenger transportation increased by 6.8% - up to  25 787 thousand people. Passenger traffic by rail increased by 11.1%-  up to 426.7 thousand people, and by air - by 25.9% up to 3,595.6  thousand people.  Passenger traffic in 2019 increased by 8.1%  (against the decline by 6.1% in 2018), amounting to 2 706.5 million  passenger-km.
