At the same time, the population of Yerevan for the reporting year increased by 0.2%, amounting to 1.084 million people, i.e. 36.6% of the total population of the country are concentrated in the capital.
According to statistics, the most densely populated are the two regions closest to the capital - Armavir (263.9 thousand people) and Ararat (256.5 thousand people). The following are: Kotayk (250.9 thousand), Shirak (231.2 thousand), Gegharkunik (227.7 thousand) and Lori (213.2 thousand). As of the reporting date, 137.3 thousand, 124.7 thousand and 121.3 thousand people, respectively, lived in Syunik, Aragatsotne and Tavush, while Vayots Dzor, where only 48.5 thousand people live, remains the most sparsely populated region of the country.
In all regions of Armenia, a decrease in the population was recorded, the most visible in the Lori and Shirak regions (by 1-1.1%), with the exception of Armavir region, where the number of resident citizens did not change.
