World Customs Organization experts got acquainted with Armenia`s  achievements within the framework of Mercator program

ArmInfo.On February 10-14, experts of the World Customs Organization diagnosed the work performed by the State Revenue Committee of Armenia within the  framework of the Mercator program, which started in May 2019.

As the SRC press service reports, during the visit the issue of  developing an action plan based on the recommendations made during  the May diagnostic mission was discussed. During the meeting with  experts, Deputy Chairman of the SRC Michael Pashayan emphasized the  importance of continuing effective cooperation between the State  Revenue Committee of the Republic of Armenia and the World Customs  Organization within the framework of the Mercator program. Mikael  Pashayan also presented the guests with the steps taken by the  Committee to implement the action plan, which includes steps to  reform the system. This, in particular, is to simplify customs  clearance, effective cooperation between border control authorities  and the State Revenue Committee, the use of modern technologies,  including the system of electronic customs services introduced by  SRC.

Within the framework of the visit and meetings with the heads and  representatives of various departments of the SRC, a project was also  discussed, developed on the basis of the recommendations of WCO  experts.  The aim of the project is to approve those responsible for  the implementation of the provisions of the Agreement on the  simplification of trade procedures for individual units outlined in  the above proposals.

As a result of the visit, proposals were made to implement the  provisions of the Agreement on trade facilitation and an action plan,  as well as the steps necessary for the Agreement and the direction of  cooperation were taken.  It should be noted that within the framework  of the program, the Committee will be provided with technical  assistance, and the reforms established by the agreement will be  carried out. It is envisaged, in particular, to reduce the time  required for customs documents to be drawn up at the border, as well  as expenses, to increase the level of cooperation between the SRC and  other structures that exercise control at the border.
