ArmInfo. The Armenian NPP will not be able to complete the program to extend the life of the second power unit without the participation of Rosatom. director general of the station Movses Vardanyan said in a conversation with ArmInfo correspondent. According to him, without the participation of "Hydropress", "Atomenergoremont" and "Rusatom Service", it is impossible to complete the program.
For this reason, the Armenian NPP plans to continue cooperation with "Rosatom" State Corporation, with which in 2021 it is planned to be implemented major work to improve safety and in order to obtain a license for the further operation of the station until 2026.
The Armenian NPP consists of two units with Soviet (Russian) WWER reactors. The first unit was put into operation in 1976, the second in 1980. In March 1989, after the Spitak earthquake, the station was stopped. In November 1995, in connection with the most acute energy crisis, the second power unit of the station with a capacity of 407.5 MW was activated. In March 2014, the Armenian government decided to extend the life of the second power unit. In order to implement the project, the Russian government provided Armenia with a loan of $ 270 million and a grant of $ 30 million.
