ArmInfo.Armenia ranks 10th in Trojan attacks on mobile applications in the world, the local representative office of Kaspersky Lab reports. According to the company, in 2019, banking Trojans attacked 0.16% of mobile users in Armenia. In 2018, this indicator was slightly higher - 0.51%, in 2017 - 0.12%.
However, as the company notes, the largest number of Trojan mobile banking attacks in 2019 was recorded in Russia (0.72%). The country has been a leader in this index for three consecutive years, where various Trojan families "specialize" in stealing user accounts. These Trojans are also relevant for other countries. Thus, the Asacub family of Trojans is the number one threat in Russia, as well as in Tajikistan, Ukraine and Armenia.
Mobile Trojan applications for stealing data from banking applications through their interfaces show their fake interface, where an unsuspecting user enters bankcard information, which allows the Trojan author to illegally withdraw money. These malicious programs also often gain access to a bank verification code or SMS containing payment information.
To protect against banking and other mobile Trojans, experts recommend downloading applications only from official stores, such as Google Play, and prohibiting the installation of software from unauthorized sources. It is also worth periodically updating applications, which eliminates the vulnerability to the systems used by cybercriminals. It is advisable not to follow suspicious links in email, SMS, messenger and social networks, and to grant permissions only to those applications that are really necessary for work. You need to use a reliable antivirus on your mobile device and regularly check the system.
