ArmInfo. In Armenia in January 2020The volume of industrial production increased by 13.4% compared to the same period in 2019 (against the decline by 0.6% a year earlier), amounting to 144.15 billion drams ($ 300.8 million). According to the RA Statistical Committee, the growth of the industrial sector is due to the reversal of the trend of the mining sector from downward to upward and accelerating the growth of the manufacturing industry.
So, in January 2020, by the same period of 2019, mining and open pit mining recorded an increase of 38.7% (against a decline of 9.8% a year earlier) - up to 33.3 billion drams. The volume of manufacturing industry in January 2020 grew by 7.6% y-o-y (against 5.9% growth a year earlier) - up to 82.7 billion drams.
Moreover, in the manufacturing industry, the growth in volumes in January 2020 compared to January 2019 was recorded in almost all directions, with the exception of sagging production of tobacco products (by 16.9%), rubber and plastic products (by 6.8%), base metals (by 5, 1%), computers and electronic / optical equipment (26.1%). In particular, the most significant growth was recorded in the production of furniture (3.7 fold), jewelry (3.6 fold), pharmaceutical products (79.8%), machinery and mechanisms (43%), clothing (36.6%), finished metal products (32.4%) , other non-metal products (30.6%), textile products (24.5%).
The leading industries in terms of production are food products - 24.4 billion drams (y-o-y growth of 11%), base metals - 14.2 billion drams, cigarettes - 12.8 billion drams, and beverages - 10.1 billion drams (growth of 5.7% y-o-y).
According to statistics, the supply of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning as a whole increased in January 2020 by the same period of 2019 by 9.1% (against the decline of 6.7% a year earlier) - up to 26.3 billion drams. Moreover, the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity in y-o-y terms increased by 5.2%, with an increase of 22.6% in gas production, distribution of gaseous fuel through gas supply systems.
Revenues from water supply, waste treatment and recycling and the receipt of secondary raw materials in January 2020 decreased by 11.1% per annum (against the 4.3% decline a year earlier) - to 1.7 billion drams. We managed to avoid a more significant decline due to an increase of 11.2% in the dominant segment - water collection, treatment and distribution (1.4 billion drams).
It should be noted that in 2019 the industrial sector of Armenia accelerated the growth of volumes to 9%, amounting to 2.1 trillion drams ($ 4.4 billion), against a slowdown in the upward pace in 2018 to 4.3% from 12.6% in 2017. The acceleration of growth was triggered by the trend of the mining sector from a 14% decline to 23.9% growth, while the growth of the manufacturing industry slowed down from 10% to 7.6%.
