ArmInfo.Depositors in Armenia will have the opportunity to receive interest from the first day of deposit. Amendments to the Civil Code were introduced at the meeting of the RA National Assembly on March 6 in the second and final reading.
As one of the project developers, NA MP Artak Manukyan noted, the presented document is called upon to restore justice. Currently, when opening a deposit in a bank, a person does not receive any interest on the first day of his investments. Meanwhile, even at night, a certain amount accumulates, which remains in the banking system. According to the data for 11 months of last year, we are talking about 320 million drams that could be received by depositors, not bankers.
"The banking sector can also provide loans overnight (for one day) and according to this logic, receive a certain amount for a deposit belonging to a particular person," said Artak Manukyan, emphasizing that if the bank benefits from the money of the investor, then the latter should not remain aside. The document will enter into force on May 1, 2020.
In turn, Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank Nerses Yeritsyan noted that the RA government does not object to the application of the legislative initiative of the MPs. Moreover, the Union of Banks of Armenia made a proposal aimed at protecting consumer rights. This, in particular, is about extending the proposed amendments to the agreements between the bank and the consumer.
