ArmInfo. In Armenia, the situation with coronavirus will have economic consequences. Minister of Economy of the Republic of Armenia Tigran Khachatryan stated this to journalists on March 12. To recall, in Armenia cases of infection of 4 persons with a new type of coronavirus were officially confirmed, a total of 57 people were isolated.
As Khachatryan noted, in the situation with coronavirus, the issue of protecting the health of the population is of paramount importance to the Government of the Republic of Armenia, and the Ministry of Healthcare of the Republic regularly provides relevant information. He stressed that, of course, coronavirus will have economic consequences for the country, including in terms of tourism. Meanwhile, relevant assessments of the damage done have not yet been carried out, since the focus is currently on anti-epidemiological measures. Economic aspects, he said, will be assessed after the threat of coronavirus to the population recedes. In this case, issues of mitigating the negative impact on the economy will be discussed, and appropriate measures will be taken. As for the impact of the depreciation of the Russian ruble on Armenia, here, taking into account the emerging positive dynamics, in the short term, Armenian producers and exporters should not expect unexpected consequences due to drastic changes. "This is a preliminary assessment, and we still need to understand the prospects for the development of the situation," Khachatryan noted. As the Air Force previously reported, the OPEC + Alliance of Oil-Producing States, which has held oil prices for the past three years, has broken up. As a result, oil prices fell from $ 50 to $ 35 per barrel, which also hit the Russian currency.
