ArmInfo. In 2019, Armenia reduced the volume of tomato exports, amid increasing imports. This is evidenced by the data of the RA Customs Service.
In particular, during the reporting year, the volume of exported tomatoes decreased by 31.6% to 24.7 thousand tons, with a decrease in customs value - by 4.5% to $ 22.1 million. The main export market was the Russian Federation (99.9%), and the remaining meager volume accounted for the UAE, Georgia and Iran.
At the same time, Armenia increased the volume of imported tomatoes by 45.3% to 3.7 thousand tons. Customs value increased 2.2 times to $ 2.4 million. Mostly, tomatoes were imported to the Armenian market from Turkey (76.7%), Iran (21%) and Georgia (2.2%).
According to the RA Statcommittee, in 2019, the vegetable harvest in Armenia decreased by 1.1% to 621.6 thousand tons. At the same time, the yield of gourds was recorded - by 0.9% to 128 thousand tons. Note that there are no separate statistics for the results of 2019 regarding the volume of tomato harvest in the report of the Statistical Committee of the Republic of Armenia. The latest information is dated 2018, published in 2020.
