The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) is ready to update the report with an analysis of the investment policy of the Republic of Armenia in the context of global challenges and opportunities. Director of Investment and Enterprise at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) James Zhan stated this, during a video conversation with the President of Armenia Armen Sarkissian, noting that he would start this process as soon as possible.
According to the press service of the head of state, recalling the meeting in 2019, within the framework of which it was proposed to analyze the investment policy of the Republic of Armenia, Armen Sarkissian noted that today, when the coronavirus pandemic has become a paramount challenge for the global economy, this proposal is more than relevant and refers to the economies of all countries of the world. In particular, he emphasized: "It is very valuable and important for Armenia to update the report on our country, including the impact of COVID 19 on the economy, its possible consequences and proposals for overcoming them."
In turn, James Zhan asked the President, as also Chairman of the UNCTAD Panel of Eminent Persons, to organize consultations with the members of the group to exchange experience and information on the matter. It was agreed that consultations on these and other issues with the President of the Republic of Armenia will be extended in the coming weeks.
To note, UNCTAD is a body of the UN General Assembly. The conference was established in 1964, with headquarters in Geneva. To date, the conference has 195 countries. UNCTAD decisions are made in the form of resolutions and are advisory in nature.
