The volume of passenger traffic in Armenia in January-February 2020  decreased by 1.8%

ArmInfo.Passenger traffic in Armenia in January-February 2020 decreased by 1.8% - to 28726.1 thousand people, against a decline of 0.9% a year earlier. This is  evidenced by the data of the RA Statistical Committee. Moreover, the  deepest decline is observed in terms of air transportation - by 20.1%  to 472 thousand people. Road transport decreased by 2.8% to 24,338.2  thousand people.

At the same time, during the reporting period, there has been an  increase in the transportation of passengers by electric transport -  by 8.6%, amounting to 3,861.7 thousand people, and by rail - by 4% to  54.2 thousand people. In general, passenger flow increased by 3.3%,  amounting to 374.9 million passenger-km. Cargo transportation in  Armenia in January-February 2020 compared to the same period of the  previous year increased by 2.3% - up to 1 940.9 thousand tons,  against a decline of 61.4% a year earlier. However, trucking, which  accounted for 53% of the total volume or 1,028.2 thousand tons,  decreased by 6.8% per annum.

According to statistics, rail freight during the reporting period, by  contrast, increased by 37% to 453.8 thousand tons, and 456.3 thousand  tons of natural gas were delivered via the main pipeline, which is  29.1% more than the indicator a year ago. At the same time, air cargo  transportation did not demonstrate changes in y-o-y dynamics,  maintaining the figure of 2.6 thousand tons (as a year earlier).  Cargo turnover increased by 18.2% to 925 million tons-km.

It should be noted that from March 16 to April 14 a state of  emergency was introduced in Armenia in order to prevent the spread of  coronavirus infection. In connection with this, a temporary ban has  been established for certain types of activities, including  restaurants, cafes, bars, casinos, hotels, canteens, retail  facilities and industries not related to food and medical products.  Cargo transportation continues to be carried out in normal mode, as  before.
