
ArmInfo. EU financial assistance provided to Armenia may increase. On April 15 during a press conference at the Unified Information Center Deputy Minister of Economy of the Republic of Armenia Varos Simonyan said recalling that earlier it was stated that the EU will allocate Armenia 92 million euros to support the most affected by the crisis layers of the population, strengthen the health care system and promote the sector of SMEs.
In this regard he explained, that at this stage discussions are being held on the tools through which assistance and its size will be provided, as the EU has recently adopted a new approach called Team Europe, which will combine the resources of the EU, its member states and financial institutions, in particular the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). This tool provides assistance in the amount of 20 billion euros, which are planned to be directed to the fight against coronavirus and the way out of the economic crisis.
In addition, according to Simonyan, within the framework of the "Eastern Partnership", the EU plans to alocate another 80 million euros to the 6 participating countries, and the European Commission will allocate 880 million euros for medium-term and short-term financial instruments to mitigate the socio-economic consequences of coronavirus countries of the entire region.
In turn, spokeswoman for the Ministry of Economy, Anna Ohanyan, said that yesterday the first meeting of the Consultative Council of the Green Agriculture initiative, funded by the EU was held. According to her, it was decided to allocate 456.5 thousand euros to support the Armenian agricultural sector. <More detailed information will soon be presented by the responsible officials for agriculture in the country, " Ohanyan emphasized.
