ArmInfo. For a rather large food sector, Armenia has a rather high level of self-sufficiency. On April 15, Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan stated this from the parliamentary tribune, adding that this conclusion was made on the basis of repeated discussions in the government on food security.
The exception in this case is, in particular, wheat, in connection with which, as the prime minister said, the issue of implementing the corresponding program urgently was raised. According to expert estimates, spring sowing of wheat in Armenia is unproductive due to low productivity, and therefore it is necessary to concentrate on sowing winter wheat.
Speaking about possible risks, Pashinyan recalled that agricultural loans were canceled as part of state programs. <At the moment, 1.4 billion drams have been credited under agricultural programs, and, to be honest, I'm dissatisfied with these rates>, - he mentioned. According to him, the possibilities of increasing the co-financing component in these programs in order to reduce the risks of banks will be discussed. As the prime minister recalled, such components are in the first and second anti-crisis events. This mechanism can also find application in terms of wheat crops, especially taking into account the possibility of problems with the formation of its strategic stock. As regards other products, as Pashinyan noted, it is necessary to think in the direction of satisfying domestic demand and promoting exports.
