Armenia and World Food Organization sign Memorandum of Understanding

Armenia's Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan and World Food Program (WFP)  Representative and  Country Director in Armenia Jelena Milosevic  remotely signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at fulfilling the  WFP national strategy plan for 2019-2024.  The press service of MFA  of Armenia reports. 

"The memorandum is an important tool for WFP and the Armenian  government in the process of strengthening the opportunities aimed at  ensuring food security in the country until 2030. Within the  framework of the five-year strategic plan, WFP is implementing a  transformative approach to development for Armenia and its people,  through investments will assist the government of Armenia stable and  inclusive programs>, the source says.

In particular, within the framework of the plan of the national  strategy of Armenia, support will be provided to the most vulnerable  groups of the population and at the same time will facilitate their  integration into economic activity, thereby stimulating the pace of  stable economic growth in Armenia.

According to the report, WFP will assist the efforts of the Armenian  government in creating cost-effective jobs, in ensuring the quality  of education, developing renewable and modern energy sources,  modernizing green agribusiness, in implementing programs aimed at  food security, eliminating malnutrition in Armenia, developing human  capital, improving public health.  It should be noted that the World  Food Program is the world's largest humanitarian organization,  providing annually about 4 million tons of food. The organization was  founded in 1963 as a food aid body in the UN system and provides  assistance to the poor in developing countries, fighting hunger and  poverty. The organization uses food aid to promote economic and  social development.
