ArmInfo. In Q1 of 2020, 7,578 babies were born in Armenia, which is by 4.7% lower than the indicator of the previous year, and by 8.7% in comparison with the same period of 2018. According to the RA Statistical Committee, the birth rate per 1000 inhabitants for the reporting year decreased from 10.9 to 10.3 ppm, compared to 11.3 two years earlier.
The highest birth rate was registered in Yerevan, where 3038 children were born during the reporting period. Following are the regions of Ararat, Armavir and Kotayk, where the number of children born exceeds 600. There are more than 500 children born in the Gegharkunik, Lori and Shirak regions. 316 children were born in Aragatsotn, more than 200 children in Syunik and Tavush. And the lowest birth rate is registered in Vayots Dzor region - 105 children.
According to statistics, during the reporting year, 7,289 people died in Armenia, with a slight y-o-y decline of 0.2%, but a two-year increase of 2.3%. The mortality rate in the country decreased for the Q1 of 2020 from 10 to 9.9 ppm, compared to 9.7 in 2018. The absolute value of the natural population growth was 289 people, which is 55.2% less than the indicator of the previous year. The coefficient of natural population growth decreased over the reporting period from 0.9 to 0.4 ppm, compared to 1.6 ppm in 2018. According to statistical data, the population of Armenia as of April 1, 2020 amounted to 2.957 million people, decreasing by 0.2% or 5.2 thousand people in annual terms.
