ArmInfo.During the final press conference dedicated to 100 facts about the new Armenia, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, indicated a reduction in concentration and an increase in number of players in the diesel fuel, oil and sugar market in Armenia.
In particular, he emphasized that in 2019, significant changes occurred in the diesel fuel market. The number of importers, according to him, increased from 6 to 17, and the share of large companies in the market decreased from 97% to 92%. The increase in competition and global market trends, according to the Prime Minister, affected the decrease in prices for oil products in Armenia. In this regard, Pashinyan drew attention to the fact that diesel prices in May 2020 amounted to 300 drams, while in 2018 the cost of the latter was registered at 470 drams. Regarding gasoline, the prime minister emphasized that prices in comparison with 2018 decreased by 38%, amounting to 280 drams.
According to Pashinyan, the concentration on the oil market in Armenia dropped to 49% from 62% (in 2018). Biennial price cuts were recorded at 16%. To date, the retail price of oil in the country amounted to 3,680 drams. At the same time, he informed that over the past year the share of large sugar importers in Armenia has decreased from 67% to 49%, and from the point of view of sales volumes - from 95% to 88%. According to the Prime Minister, today the price of sugar is 255 drams / kg, which is 24% lower than the figures recorded in May 2018.
